What is the difference between the Online School, the Asynchronous School and 1-to-1 tutoring?
Three services, for three different ways of learning. They can be combined.
Online School
Our core service: structured, interactive group lessons delivered live on a daily schedule by state-certified, background-checked teachers. Lessons are aligned to Common Core and NGSS from 3rd to 10th grade. Live lessons cover math and English language arts at every grade, science, history and geography in 3rd–4th grade, and literature, biology, chemistry and physics from 5th grade. Alongside them come offline resources-based lessons in Spanish, French, German, business, computer science, art, and design and technology, plus geography and history from 5th grade.
Every live lesson can also be explored asynchronously afterwards. Members get curriculum reports, progress reports, a certificate of completion and a signed transcript — and access to the Asynchronous School at no extra cost.
Asynchronous School
For learners who need flexibility. Recorded lessons, presentations, worksheets and resources, accessed whenever it suits you. Students progress at their own pace, and can request feedback or support at any time through our whiteboard software. Reports, certificate and transcript are included.
1-to-1 tutoring
Individual attention from a certified teacher, tailored to a student's specific strengths and gaps. Useful for accelerating progress, test prep, or getting extra help in a difficult subject. Families can add a session or two alongside the Online School.
Who can join?
We cover 2nd to 12th grade — roughly ages 7 to 18. Lessons are aligned to Common Core and NGSS, and taught online, so families anywhere in the US can join.
One prerequisite: a basic grasp of 1st–2nd grade reading, writing and math.
Why join Maevious?
Because it is an investment in your child's education rather than simply a subscription. A few things that set us apart:
- You set your child's targets and track progress against them with monthly curriculum reports.
- Every lesson is recorded and every resource stays available, so learning fits around extracurriculars and family life rather than competing with them.
- Every teacher holds a US state teaching certificate, is degree-qualified in their subject, and is background-checked.
- Lessons are fully differentiated — learners choose tasks suited to their confidence and understanding on each topic.
- No strict deadlines on daily tasks and homework. Students work at their own pace.
- Our whiteboard software goes well beyond a conventional video call: collaborative and independent work, resource upload and download, and live monitoring so misconceptions get addressed as they appear.
- A social club where students connect and share ideas.
- A focus on practical skills and real-world application, so students are ready for what comes after school.
Money & commitment
What does it cost?
Plans start at $119 a month for 2nd–3rd grade, $159 a month for the Asynchronous School, and $199 a month for the full Online School with daily live lessons. 1-to-1 tutoring and the 11th–12th grade program are priced per subject — see the plans page for guide prices. All prices are in US dollars.
There are no contractual obligations and you can cancel at any time.
Do I need to commit to a long-term contract?
No. Monthly plans renew each month and there is no minimum term. You can stop it at any time from your account, and restart it whenever you like from the plans page.
Will my subscription price ever increase?
No. Your price is locked in for as long as you keep your current plan active, as part of our commitment to keeping high-quality teaching affordable.
We keep the price low by running without the overhead of a large institution.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. Every family gets a free trial lesson and a consultation session before deciding anything. Fill in the contact form with your preferred dates and times and we will confirm a slot.
How does the referral discount work?
Invite a friend and you earn a 20% discount on any of our plans. Use the contact form, choose “Refer a friend”, and give us your friend's email. When they complete registration we will send you a discount code.
Teaching & progress
Who delivers the lessons?
Every one of our teachers holds a current US state teaching certificate, has a bachelor's degree in education or in the subject they teach, and has passed a criminal background check before meeting a student.
How can I monitor my child's progress?
Four ways, and they work together:
- Live lesson feedback — teachers give regular feedback during sessions.
- Ongoing support — you or your child can request feedback through our software at any time, including outside scheduled lessons.
- Daily work archive — your child's work is saved in our software so you can review it whenever it suits you.
- Progress reports — included in your subscription. Grades, strengths, areas for development and a suggested action plan.
Practical
How do I book 1-to-1 tutoring?
Get in touch and tell us which subjects you are interested in. We will come back to you with current availability and rates.
When are lessons delivered?
Lessons run on a weekly schedule during the school year. We are finalizing the US schedule and school calendar now — ask us and we will tell you the times in your own time zone. Every live lesson is recorded, so a missed lesson is never a lost lesson.
How do I access the daily resources and my whiteboard?
Log in, open your grade's classroom, and everything is on one page — the live lesson link, the resources folder, and your whiteboard.
Resources (recordings, worksheets and so on) are uploaded daily, after each live lesson.
